BQ40Z50: How to properly raise the RSOC zero level?

Part Number: BQ40Z50

Tool/software:

Hello!

I have a battery of two lithium-ion cells in series.

I want the RSOC zero level to be at 6.5V rather than at the end of the battery discharge (5V).

The battery went through the learning cycle with a minimum value of Term Voltage = 5V (as written in SLUA848–June 2018 3.6 Term Voltage).

Then it says: "After the learning cycle is completed, this value can be adjusted upwards if there is a need for the gauge to report 0% at a higher voltage".

Please tell me, do I need to change anything else in the settings besides the Term Voltage parameter in order to raise the RSOC zero level to 6.5V?

Does Design Capacity need to be changed?

  • Hi Mike,

Yes, I believe the only parameter here that needs to be changed is the Term Voltage. The algorithm relies heavily on the Design Capacity for calculation and should not be changed from the nominal capacity of the cell.

    Regards,
