TPS653850A-Q1: pmic reset fail

Part Number: TPS653850A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

We found that the PMIC would shut down after 15 times reset, and the power could only be turned on and off again.
Is this the protection mechanism of pmic?
Can this number be adjusted or turned off?

Thanks!

Ricky

  • We found the source of the problem.
We use SPI instructions to reset the pmic. This method causes the DEV_ERR_CNT count in the SAFETY_ERR_STAT_1 scratchpad to be incremented and when DEV_ERR_CNT=PWD_THR (1111), pmic will enter the shutdown state.

I would like to ask if there is a way to r/w DEV_ERR_CNT through SPI commands or other methods to return pmic to diagnostic status?
Or is there any other way to perform a pmic reset without affecting the value?

  • Hi Ricky,

As this is an NDA device I can't really post much on the open forums. I'll try to help with what I can here but of you need more help please contact your local TI representative.

You can enter the diagnostic state from the safe state and clear the error count then go back into the active state the state diagram in the datasheet should have more details with the state diagram and the details on the safe exit command.

    Best,

    Michael Hernandez
