LM5181: ERROR -- Expecting keyword STIMULUS, saw VDC.

Part Number: LM5181
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PSPICE-FOR-TI

Tool/software:

I am designing an isolated Boost converter, meant to boost up to 12V.

I keep getting the message: ERROR -- Expecting keyword STIMULUS, saw VDC.

I'm not sure if this is the only problem but it seems like the only apparent one.

  • Hi Dylan,

Thank you for designing with the LM5181.  I just downloaded the LM5181 Pspice model and hit  Simulate in Pspice, and it worked.

So, I am not sure if I really understand your question.

    • Which software do you use?
    • Snapshot of the error message?

    Regards,

    Youhao

  • Hi Youhao,

Thanks for getting back to me. I am using PSpice for TI.

    Thanks,

    Dylan

  • Hi Dylan,

I see.  I am using the full rev17.4 Pspice.  We use the full version to develop the models, but we cannot install Pspice-for-TI on the same machine due to some setting conflicts.  Let me try this:  can you click VDC and define the source voltage?  It seems not having value now in your circuit.  In the snapshot below, one VDC is the ref designator, and the other should be replaced with a value.

    Thanks,

    Youhao

  • Hi Youhao,

The reason I left the voltage unchanged is because I wanted to test it over a series of voltages.

I have changed it to a voltage value, However I am now getting a different error:

    Thanks,

    Dylan

  • Try this in the simulation setting window:

  • 12V_Boost2-2024-11-13T09-02.zip

I have uploaded my project can you take a look.

    I am now getting:

ERROR(ORPSIM-15141): Less than 2 connections at node N03248.

  • Hi Dylan,

Sorry I did not see the same error, but I found there was a leftover error in above Parametric Sweep window: VIN was in the Parameter name cell but VIN was not first defined as a parameter.  It means the Parameter name cell refers to an undefined parameter.  After I opened your file, the window looked like below, and VIN should be deleted if not defined in the schematic.  Check Global parameter then you are allowed to delete the cell.  Remember also to uncheck Parameter Sweep.  This should fix the "undefined parameter VIN" error.

Since you are using Pspice-for-TI, you need to take another step in order to run the simulation:  Click Probe Window on the left, uncheck Last Plot, and check All Markers on open schematics.

Then, you can add not-more-than-three probes to the schematic to be viewed on the plot window.  I just added one voltage probe at the SW node

After the sim runs and the Probe window shows up, click the icon on the left, the sim results will show up.

Other than these, your model file is fine.  Above sim was got after running your file in Pspice.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Youhao

  • It seems that has resolved my error, however, a new error has occurred:

I have tried redrawing the wire, moving the wire around and replacing the parts on either side. (highlighted in yellow)

  • Hi Dylan,

It seems you have not read the notes under the model schematic:

Please leave the TC pin floating by deleting R8.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Youhao
