TPS7A87: Tie 2 outputs together?

Part Number: TPS7A87

Tool/software:

Hello team,

Is it possible to tie OUT1 and OUT2 together to increase the total output current?

Would I need ballast resistors at the each outputs?

Best Regards,
Kei Kuwahara

  • Hi Kei,

FYI - we have many LDO's that can provide 1A or higher current.  If you would like a recommended alternative, please let me know what the key requirements are and we can make a suggestion.

To answer your question: Yes, the TPS7A87 outputs can be paralleled for higher current but as you said you'll need ballast resistors.  We have developed new, comprehensive collateral on this technique in the past few years (see below).  If you still want to use the TPS7A87 outputs in parallel, we will need to run transistor simulations to obtain Vos of the internal error amplifier and we'll need to update the calculator.  This can take 2-3 weeks while our engineers gain access to the database and set up the simulation profile.  Let me know if you want to pursue this ASAP so I can initiate this work.
