TLV61070A: Usage issues of TLV61070A

Part Number: TLV61070A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61033, TPS61023

Tool/software:

Hi Teams,

The customer plans to use this chip now: Input 3V, output 3.9V_1.5A;
But the actual output can reach a maximum of 0.75A,

Below are the customer's circuit diagram and PCB. Please help review them.

  • Hi Vayne,

Is Max Iout 0.75A or 1.5A?

If 470uF cout is not necessary, please remove C7 and apply 3x22uf for Cout. If 470uF is necessary, please  add 1.5nF feedforward capacitor.

    The layout is good.

    Best Regardsm

    Travis

  • Hi Travis,

    Thanks for your reply,

The actual demand of the customer is 1.5A, but now it can only reach 0.75A,

Your suggestions will be synchronized with the customer,

    thanks!

  • Hi Travis

Just to add, the customer wants to drive a 4G module with a peak current of 1.5-2A at the load end with a 2.5V input. Let's see how to maximize the power supply capacity of this peak current?

  • Hi Vayne,

TLV71070A does not support 1.5-2A at 2.5Vin and 4Vout. You can look at TPS61033

    Travis

  • Hi Travis,

The customer feels that the cost of TPS61033 is too high,

They want to know how much current can be achieved with a 2.5V input and a 4V output, and how to improve it by adjusting the peripheral circuit. They can reduce some power and current appropriately. Please give some suggestions, thank you!

  • Hi Vayne,

The maximum Iout should be close to 1.13A. And the TLV61070 maximum current capability cannot be adjusted by external components. It is not normal behavior that the customer fails at 0.75A. So please update whether the customer can output 1.1A after adding feed forward cap.

If the customer cannot accept 1.13A Iout. You can look at TPS61023. This device can support 1.5A at 2.5V-4V and is cheaper than TPS61033.

    Best Regards.

    Travis

  • Hi Travis,

At present, about TLV61070 the customer has tested the effect of increasing the feedforward capacitor by 1.5nF and found that both the output voltage and conversion efficiency have decreased.

The customer has set the output voltage to 3.4V and the maximum output current to 1.35A But the actual output voltage is around 3.2V.

  • Hi Vayne,

The feedforward cap is designed to maintain loop stability at corner condition and has nothing to do with Iout. So this is a normal behavior.

    Best Regards,

    Travis
