TPS56C215: Soft Start Time

Part Number: TPS56C215
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS56C231, , TPS56C230

Tool/software:

We were using IR3475MTRPBF in one of our projects. Now that IC got obsolete and we have searched out TPS56C215RNNR for that application.

My question is what is the minimum Soft Start time for TPS56C215RNNR. Can we use a capacitor of Css= 5 nF at SS pin to set Soft Start Time to 0.5ms.

Is there any other IC which can be used in place of IR3475MTRPBF meeting same requirements.

Regards.

  • Hi Parul,

Yes, the device tracks the lower of the internal soft-start voltage or the external soft-start voltage as the reference so with a 5nF you should see 0.5ms soft-start time. Do you need an input voltage higher than 18V? If not, then TPS56C215, TPS56C230 and TPS56C231 are good options to look at. Let me know if there are any specific features that need to be present on the device so I can look a bit deeper.

    Thanks,
    Amod

  • Apologies Parul. Upon reviewing again the minimum soft start time is 1ms for all these devices. You’ll need to consider other devices if you want lower SS time. Please let me know if that is the case and what requirements/features are needed so I can look at options.

    Thanks,

    Amod
