Hi,

We are using HD3SS3220IRNHR part in our design.

As per the datasheet, the max current sink on the VDD5 pin is 375mA @5V.

The power dissipation on then device due to this supply is therefore is 1.875W.

This device also have high thermal resistance values.

The package of the device is quite tiny 2.5mmx4.5mm.

Dissipating this amount of power over the smaller package is quite challenging.

Hence we wanted to understand if there is measurement data for this device about the nominal Current consumption.

Please prioritize this request.

Hi Ravi,

During operation, the typical current consumption with both CC controller and mux operability from the device is 0.7mA/700uA. With only CC controller functionality, current consumption drops down to .2mA/200uF.

So the worst case current consumption of the device is 0.7mA. Could you please confirm if my understanding is correct?

Hi Ravi,

This current is associated with VCONN, which comes from CC line communication with accessories and active cables. The USB-C spec has a typical amount of current that can be drawn from VCONN, which the HD3SS3220 monitors. If the VCONN current violate this spec, VCONN with disconnect, and the VCONN_FAULT_N pin will assert low, indicating a disconnect.
