TPS25947: ADC monitoring of the ILIM output, design requirements, EMC susceptabilty....

Part Number: TPS25947

Tool/software:

Hello TI Team,

We are interested in monitoring the ILIM output of the device TPS259470 by a microcontroller with an ADC, if practicable.

Assuming a current limit of 5.5 A, a relatively steady state current draw at 1 A with Rilim set at around 600 R, what factors should be considered with regard to the internal comparators in the TPS device when loaded with an ADC?

The product is to be CE-compliant, susceptibility and compliance testing will be performed.

Regards,
Greg

  • Hi Greg,

ILIM is sensitive to capacitance so that needs to be taken care of in the layout.

we should get around 182uA of current at the ILIM pin when the device have 1A of current.

Internal comparators won't sink any current. When loading the pin with ADC, you may have to change some calculations for expected voltage levels based on the exact sink current of the ADC.

    Best regards,
    Arush

  • Hi Arush,

Thanks for the reply. The capacitive loading is understood, likely dynamic.

As we expect the high gain in the TPS's comparators, are there any concerns with susceptibility to radiated emissions? We understand this will depend on board layout and stackup.

    Greg

I understand your concern but we haven't seen or been reported about this issue for our devices.
