LM5022: Hipcup OCP circuit design

Part Number: LM5022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28C55, LM51561, LM51551

Tool/software:

Hi,

This is Racheal from AA3 Shenzhen team. My customer is using LM5022 in Flyback, and wanna have HIPCUP OCP function designed in. Since this device only terminates the PWM wave when there is an over-current. I wonder if HIPCUP OCP can be implemented by the solution similar to the UCC28C55, shown below:

This is the solution when I consulted how to achieve UCC28C55 OCP. UCC28C55 and LM5022 are quite similar in CS, FB, COMP designs. Is it plausible for the customer to use the same peripheral circuit to achieve HIPCUP OCP of LM5022? Or could you please share some other ways to implement HIPCUP OCP of LM5022?

Thanks,

Racheal Shen

  • Hello Rachel,

Thanks for reaching out to us via e2e.

This is not a concept that is anywhere shown in context with the LN5022, so we cannot officially confirm nor recommend this as a solution.

My personal guess is that this concept could work with the LM5022 in a similar way.
But the current sense signal is very sensitive, and any extra component may cause issues there.

Why don't you propose using the LM51551 or LM51561 ?
These devices are more modern, and the versions with the 1 at the end of the part number do provide a hiccup mode.

    Best regards
    Harry
