LM74900-Q1: Query on Transistor to NMOS Gate in the scheme of Power Mux with Priority

Part Number: LM74900-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74900

Dear TI Experts,

Question1: Regarding the following circuit with LM74900 (SLVAFK0 page 6):

We understand that Q5 transistor in the auxiliary power chain can speed up the turn-on action and we wonder why not do the same for main power chain's LM74900. Or can we take that if we also care about the time which that auxiliary chain switches off and main chain switches on again would take, shall we also add the transistor circuit to the main chain's LM74900?

Question 2 on VS pin in the case of OR-ing application.

Say, we have two power input rails. In one case, power rail 1 is 24.5V and power rail 2 is 23.5V. We understand that NMOS would be turned off when reverse current occurs in its path. It seems to us that VS pin (power supply of charge pump and others) in the power rail 2 path would be pulled up to 24.5V. Would that influence the internal circuit in the chip? How do we interpret to this?

Thanks.

Regards,

Yuanchen

  • Hi Yuanchen,

    1. Auxiliary circuit to drive HGATE is not added on main chain because main chain may require inrush current limiting. With added circuit, strength is increased and limiting inrush may not be feasible.

    2. Yes, VS will be pulled higher, but it will not damage the IC. This is a common ORing case.
