TPS6594-Q1: Failed to reprogram NVM of the TPS6594

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

When trying to reprogram the NVM of the TPS6594 via I2C, we fail and get the following message: Failed to unlock Frequency Select. -rrprogram?
after this the power of the system shutdown,  and we need to recycle the system in order to access it again.

We do manage to access (read and write) the registers of the device (using the GUI) before the attempt to reprogram the NVM.

What could be the reason?

Might the PMIC have been locked during previous programming?

How can I know if the device is locked?

Thanks,

Chagai

  • Hi Chagai,

Error message doesn't sound any familiar to me. Is it your program?

You can check if NVM is locked by reading register 0xa3. The bit 7 must be high to indicate NVM is not locked.

  • Hi,

No, we are using TI's online program. No special program, and it's a prompt from the GUI.

    we will check the register.

If NVM is locked, is there a way to bypass it?

    BR,

    Chagai

  • Hi Chagai,

Unfortunately no. This is intentionally done one-way operating only.

  • Hi,

i have checked the register and it is indeed not locked.

However i still didn't manage to burn the NVM.

Accessing the registers works fine but once I try to burn the NVM, the Power consumption of the system drops to ~70mA and stays low.

The PMIC stops working until we power cycle the system.

This message appears: Please wait.. Unlocking Frequency Select..

and then when we power cycle the system, this message appears: Failed to unlock Frequency Select. -reprogram?

    Any suggestions?

    BR,

    Chagai

  • Hi Chagai,

Power consumption is expected since PMIC powers regulators down. But based on this GUI tries to communicate to PMIC at least and something happens. What prevents progressing is very much unknown at this point of time.

What OPN you have for the PMIC? What GUI version you're using? I would to test this in my setup as well. Any screenshots to share about GUI window?
