LM3409: About LM3409 drive similar DLP5530 RGB three-color light source dimming solution

Part Number: LM3409

Tool/software:

We need to drive an RGB three-color lamp and be able to dimmer. The parameters of the three lamps are 3.5V/4A, and VIN is 12V input. Now we want to dimmer the RGB three-color lamp with LM3409 and a MOS tube circuit similar to DLP5530EVM, and the PWM signal is given by our MCU/SOC. Could you please tell me the specific design of the peripheral circuit of LM3409, such as the EN pin input PWM, how to connect the IADJ pin, how to connect other pins, what are the important precautions? Do you have any reference design for me?

In addition, what is the difference and use of PWM dimming and analog dimming? In this application, I need two dimming methods to be considered, because I understand that the peripheral circuit design of the two dimming methods is not the same.

In addition, if the Qg of PFET is greater than 30nC, should VCC be connected to CSN? Instead of getting VIN.

  • What do you mean  MOS tube circuit similar to DLP5530EVM? For PWM dimming, please refer to LM3409 datasheet 8.3.6 PWM Dimming Using the EN Pin and 8.3.8 External Parallel FET PWM Dimming.. Please kindly refer to 8.3.2.1 Adjustable Peak Current Control for IADJ pin. Please kindly refer to LM3409 datasheet  9 Application and Implementation and LM3409EVM user guide for design reference.

You may refer to below app note for analog diming & pwm dimming.

For last question, Cf connects from VCC to CSN pin instead of VCC to VIN, not shorting VCC to CSN.
