BQ27Z746: SDM

Part Number: BQ27Z746

Tool/software:

After being left idle for a period of time, the battery will turn off the charging and discharging FET, the XCHG and DSG flags in the Operation Status A register will be set to 1, and charging activation will not be possible. Communication needs to be connected for a reset operation to restore charging and discharging. The following figure shows the interface display of the upper computer.

  • Hello,

Please see the following image taken from the device TRM.

  • Hello,

Firstly, no SHUTDOWN command was sent to the battery, and the battery voltage is much higher than the Shutdown Voltage. The battery shuts down the charging and discharging FETs on its own after being idle for a period of time.

Secondly, after the battery enters the shutdown mode, following the method shown in the box below cannot activate the battery, that is, we tried to charge the battery and pulled down the pin without any effect. What is the reason for this?

    tech16.

  • Hello,

The SDM bit is set which indicates that the gauge is trying to enter shutdown mode.

Something to note here though is that with your current design, the gauge will never be able to enter shutdown mode. If you wish for the ability for the gauge to enter shutdown mode, then I recommend you do not permanently pull the ENAB pin down.

    Regards,

    Robert.

  • Hello,

Just as you said, however, in fact, when the battery is connected to the communication, it shows that the fuel gauge has entered shutdown mode. What is the reason for this?

    tech16.

  • Hello,

If ENAB is permanently pulled low, then the gauge can not enter shutdown mode. The SDM bit does not indicate that the gauge is in shutdown mode. If the gauge is in shutdown mode you would lose all communication with the gauge.

How are you determining that it is in shutdown mode?

    Regards,

    Robert.
