LM51772: Protection function setting for CFG4 pin

Part Number: LM51772

Tool/software:

Dear Sirs and Madams,

I would like to know about "Table 7-7 CFG4 Pin (R2D-CH4) Configuration Overview" in the LM51772 datasheet.

Even if the current limit is set to "DISABLE" in settings #1 to 8, will the HICCUP mode go into effect when an overcurrent occurs if the HICCUP mode setting is "ENABLE"?

I think disable of the current limit will disable the peak current limit between CSA and CSB.

If the current limit is disabled, what triggers the entry into HICCUP mode?

Regards,

Masashi

  • Hi Masashi,

the LM51772 has 2 current limiter:
CSA/CSB for the peak inductor current
ISNS for the average input/output current.

the only current limiter which could be disabled is the one at ISNS for average input/output current (via R2D or I2C interface)

So Peak inductor current limit will always be active.

    Best regards,
    Stefan

  • Hello Stefan,

    It make sense.

I understood that not all current limits are disabled.

Is it correct to assume that when HICCUP mode is DISABLE, it is a foldback operation?

    Thank you,

    Masashi
