TPS2491: Disabling Timer?

Part Number: TPS2491

Tool/software:

Dear TI specialists,

I want to disable the timer function of the TPS2491. In the datasheet in section 7.3.8, you recommend tying the TIMER pin to ground when the feature isn't used. Do you really mean a short to ground?

This does not work for me. The IC tries to reach 4V at the timer-pin by charging a connected capacitor with 25µA. It's faster reached the smaller the capacitance is. So far, so good. But wouldn't 4V never be reached if there is a short to ground? Shouldn't I place e.g. 160 kOhm from timer-pin to ground, to ensure a 4V drop over the resistor at 25µA?

I'm grateful for any advice.

Best regards

Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

Connect TIMER to ground disables its function. Didn't that worked for you ?

  • Hi Rakesh.

I was wrong. I unterstood the term "disabling the timer function" as disabling any delay between overcurrent detection and shutting off the output. But in fact, it disables the function of shutting down the output at all, and it only limits the current to the set value.

    Thank you.
