BQ24172: BQ24172

Part Number: BQ24172

Tool/software:

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well. We are currently facing an issue where the "/BATDRV" stays at ACN - 6V (clamped to ground), but instead, we are getting +10V when the adapter is disconnected and +12V when the adapter is connected.

Additionally, I have a question about the BQ24172, which is adjustable up to 3 series Li+ cells. We are using a 3S3P battery configuration, and we're experiencing an issue where the LED connected to the STAT pin is constantly blinking, regardless of whether the adapter is connected or not. According to your data sheet "Open-drain charge status pin with 10-kΩ pullup to power rail. The STAT pin can be used to drive LED or communicate with the host processor. It indicates various charger operations: LOW when charge in STAT 9 O progress. HIGH when charge is complete or in SLEEP mode. Blinking at 0.5 Hz when fault occurs, including charge suspend, input overvoltage, timer fault and battery absent.

Please refer to the attached schematics and let me know if there are any corrections that need to be made.

Thank you,

Chaitanya Krishna .D

  • Hi Krishna,

The schematic has several issues.  I have highlighted them using the app schematic from the datasheet below:

    1. AVCC needs a 10ohm, 1uF filter

    2. BTST cap should be 47nF (those m's above are really micro's)

    3. /BATDRV should not a voltage divider or pull up resistor, only a series resistor and an optional 1M pull down resistor.

    4. The Schottky diode on SW is highly recommended.

    5. CELL is really FB.  The top resistor must connect to SRN pin.

    6.  The resistor divider values for OVPSET, ACSET and CELL(FB) do not appear correct.  Please use the xls at the link below to compute the resistor divider values.
