TPS40077 used in negative output up to 10A

Hi Jimmy,

I would suggest configure TPS40077 as the controller for synchronous buck-boost converter to get the negative output. Please refer to the following application report: SLVA458, SLVA317A, SLVA257A. Since TPS40077 is the controller without integrated FET, the output current is not limited by the IC, but other components, e.g. FETs, inductor.

Here is an example of a buck controller (TPS40304) with external MOSFET's used in a Buck-Boost configuration, http://www.ti.com/tool/pmp4293. It would be very close to what you are trying to achieve.

Thanks Richard, but we need 10A and the only solutions we could find (TPS43000) including the TPS40304 only go up to 6A.

Thanks Na, is there a tool such as switcher pro that would make the FET selection and external circuit design easier.  The apps notes refer to different parts other than the TPS40077, which is not loaded into switcher pro.  The apps notes describe how to implement a negative rail but nothing on whether or not it can support up to 10A.  I need  to find a device that can support this requirement.

The test data for the TPS40304 based design PMP4293, http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slpr043/slpr043.pdf, actually shows data for 10A. Upgrading the FET's Q1 and Q2, along with tthe inductor L1 may allow for better efficiency.
