TLV62084: Noisy output waveform reg.

Part Number: TLV62084

Tool/software:

I have a 5V regulator supplying power to a 1.2V regulator (TLV62084) and a 3.3V regulator, The 1.2V regulator has a noise of about 300mV in the output of the regulator which causes a noise of about 400mV in my 5V regulator, could you please guide me on how to reduce the noise caused by the 1.2V regulator.

  • Hello Siddhaarth,

    thanks for using E2E.

The output voltage ripple of the TLV62084 can be minimized with bigger output filter component values (higher inductance, higher COUT value). Please refer to Table 6 in section 9.2.2.2 of the datasheet for recommended capacitor and inductor combinations.

The input voltage ripple of the TLV62084 can be minimized by increasing the input capacitor value. There is no max. limit for the input cap from TLV62084 perspective, but the 5V supply might have some limitation (for example inrush current during startup). It is also important that the input cap has a low ESR and is placed as close as possible to the VIN and GND pins of the TLV62084.

The switch noise can be further minimized by adding a second filter stage at the input and/or at the output, as described in this application note: "Using the Filters with the DC/DC Step-Down Converter"

    Best regards,

    Andreas.
