TPS272C45: R_ILIM and limiting accuracy

Part Number: TPS272C45

Tool/software:

Hello,
since I couldn't seem to find this information in the datasheet, I hope you can help me with this matter.

What is the accuracy of the current limiting in this device?
The only points of reference I could find were this table with example data:

Using this data points, it seems like the accuracy is arround -25%/+15% of the set current limit.

In the Typical Application section (specifically 10.2.2.1 RILIM Calculation) also 23% are mentiond as margin, but without any explanation why.

Furthermore, since the maximum resistence allowed is 5kΩ as R_ILIM (4,1A), this would mean the actual maximum nominal current that can be driven safely is around 3,1A.

Because anything higher could potentially get limited by the switch itself.

Thanks in adavance for your help.

  • Hello,

You calculated the current limit accuracy correctly. The best way to determine the percentage is to go off the limits present in the datasheet. In addition, with both channels enabled the nominal load current would be 3A. The single channel limit would be 4A.
