BQ25756E: 5V Input, 24V Battery Not Charging

Part Number: BQ25756E

Tool/software:

Hello everyone,

I’m working on a PCB design that uses the BQ25756E IC to charge a 24V battery. Here’s my setup:

  • Input Voltage: 5V DC
  • Battery Voltage: 24V (currently at 20.5V, so it’s not fully charged)
  • Load: A 24V display connected in parallel with the battery

The issue I’m facing is that the battery isn’t charging. When I measure the voltage across the Rsns resistor, it’s 0V, indicating no current flow.

I’ve set up the IC in standalone mode (without an MCU or USB PD) and have double-checked my connections, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong.

One potential issue I’ve identified is that I’ve left the TS (Thermistor Sense) pin floating. I know this isn’t correct, but I wanted to check if this alone could cause the problem.

I plan to temporarily connect this pin to 3VDC for testing purposes, but I’d like to confirm if there might be other factors at play.

Does anyone have experience with this IC or insights into what could be causing the issue?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Ido
