LMR51435: Differences in efficiency and thermal characteristics between the LMR51450 (5A) and LMR51435 (3.5A)

Part Number: LMR51435
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR51450EVM, LMR51450

Tool/software:

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering LMR51435 and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

The LMR51435 product folder lists the LMR51450EVM as an EVM.

The LMR51450EVM is a 5A product, but is there any difference in heat generation, efficiency, etc. compared to the LMR51435?

According to the data sheets for the LMR51450 (5A) and LMR51435 (3.5A), the Rdson specs are the same despite the different output currents.

If the same load current is applied, will the heat generation and efficiency be the same?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

With the same load current, the heat generation and efficiency in the two devices should be similar. You can take a look at their efficiency curves in their respective datasheets to gain a better understanding of how their efficiencies should compare. Comparing figures 7-1 and 7-2 of the LMR51450 datasheet and figures 6-1 and 6-2 of the LMR51435 datasheet respectively should be a good set to analyze.

There may be slightly better efficiency in the LMR51450 at lighter loads in PFM mode due to its higher current limits.

    Thank you,

    Joshua Austria

  • Hi Joshua,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand LMR51450 and LMR51435 should be same heat generation and efficiency with the same load.

The difference may occur at the light load in PFM mode.

I'll share this information with the customer.

When the customer has an additional question, I consult you again.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,
