BQ25606: Is it possible to use D+ and D- line with MCU?

Part Number: BQ25606
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25895

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer checks the specification of BQ25606 for their new project.

First, my customer will make a schematic with (PC)<->(USB cable)<->{(USB connector)<->(MCU)}.

and for charging, my customer wants to connect both MCU and BQ25606 to USB connector for charging.

In this case, Can I use 2 functions normally? (USB communication with PC and battery charging)

If no, How about BQ25895? Does it have same behavior?

Please check this issue. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

For all of our parts with D+/D- detection the customer needs to have a multiplexer to allow the D+/D- detection to finish before using the MCU D+/D- lines. Without this sequence D+/D- detection cannot work properly.

  • Dear Michael,

    Thank you for your support.

    1. How can I know that D+/D- detection is finished in charger? (then I can switch the multiplexer.)

    2. Is it okay to power up at the same time both charger and moutiplexer?

    3. Could you recommend TI multiplexer for USB 2.0 lines?

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    1. In Section 9.3.2 Power Up from Input Source it shows that input source detection (3) happens before converter power up (5).

    2. Please make sure the multplexer is powered before the detection starts (so preferably before the input is applied to the charger).

    3. Please check out the BQ25890EVM, we use the TS3USB221ARSER there.

    Regards,

    Mike Emanuel
