BQ25792: Sleep Current with Pulsing

Part Number: BQ25792

Tool/software:

Hello,

We have a design based on the BQ25792, without the ship FET in the design. We have noticed a periodic pulsing in the sleep current about every 30 milliseconds from the battery terminal:

Everything else in the design is unpowered. There is no VSYS load and no VBUS voltage on either terminal. We expect it is coming from the BQ. Is this expected?

Thanks

Jesse

  • Hi Jesse,

Yes.  Even without the shipFET, the charge pump that drives the SDRV pin (with 1000pF installed) still runs. You can quickly test by placing a DMM or scope probe on SDRV.  The probe's resistive loading on SDRV will cause to collapse in between charge pump pulses, which should coincide with the pulses you are measuring.  Also, if ADC is enabled, I expect pulsing current at each channel measurement.

    Regards,

    Jeff
