LP87745-Q1: What's the differece between 4.4MHz, 8.8MHz, and 17.6MHz in use of AWR2944 EVM

Part Number: LP87745-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944,

Tool/software:

As tile, we try to use the AWR2944 EVM to do the radar detection, the default component is 17.6MHz option, we would like to know if we change other versions, there are some different performance for Radar detection?

Thank you for your support~

  • The main catalog NVM for the LP87745-Q1 is LP877451A1RXVRQ1, which supports 17.6MHz so usually is recommended from PMIC side, but we do have some other frequency option like 8.8MHz NVM available if needed. However, it looks like you are asking more about the radar performance, so I'm going to reassign this request to the AWR2944 team to comment on that part.

  • Hello,

We use/recommend high switching frequency at 17.6MHz primarily to be outside of the IF band (15MHz for AWR2944). This avoids switching noise coupling/interference with the radar's signal processing and eliminates the need for additional 2nd stage LC filters to suppress spurs within the IF band. However, lowering the switching frequency into or near the IF bandwidth can introduce switching noise that degrades radar's performance. This noise may reduce SNR and lead to higher noise floor and potentially impact detection range and overall accuracy. While you may benefit from PMIC's efficiency at lower switching frequency, it comes at the cost of requiring additional filtering to prevent performance degradation.
