LP8866EVM: GUI is not able to connect to hardware and always trying to connect to cloud agent

I think the possible reason is because the USB2ANY version is not correct.

Please download the USB2ANY EXPLORE to update the correct version and then connect the LP5860EVM GUI again.

I got the cloud version working on another computer, I can use that for now.

I have another question; I want to configure the EVM to give a "DC" light level from the LED and have a flicker say 50Hz running on top of that?

How do I configure that with the EVM?

May I kindly confirm which EVM you are using? LP5860EVM or LP8866 EVM.

Pls refer to the datasheet. You may need Direct PWM dimming and set the PWM input as 50Hz.

if I understand correctly, you can either control the LED brightness with internal i2c setting or external PWM with this EVM. Is that correct?

I can see the LED turns on when setting the current control, but when using the external PWM it's not turn on and also the frequency is only support down to 100Hz. I want 50 or 60 Hz. Do we need external source to use PWM?

Yes, your understand is correct.

You can control the brightness with external PWM signal or internal register.

As you need a 50 to 60Hz, you need external PWM dimming. And 100Hz is limited by GUI, pls try to applied an external PWM signal by PWM generator 

So, I will need to use external generator that will give the 50/60 Hz say with 50% duty cycle and feed this into PWM pin 1 of J11 - is that right?

In this configuration, the 50 or 60 Hz will be the AC flicker how do you set the DC brightness?

Sorry what you mean about AC flicker? The current is SET by ISET register. Does this answer your question?

I want to set the LED light with some intensity "DC" level and at the same time a 50 or 60 Hz riding on top of that to imitate the light flicker.
