TPS4811-Q1: TPS4811-Q1 overcurrent protection issue

Part Number: TPS4811-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Teams,

The customer used TPS48110AQDGXRQ1 for testing on their board, and their application is an automotive domain controller.

During the testing process, it was found that the IC could not work after reaching the overcurrent protection point. Even after powering on again, it still could not work. Currently, three boards have been tested and the problem has occurred on all three boards. At present, they have set 15A overcurrent protection.

They understand that the IC is protected against overcurrent by setting resistors (IWRN, ISCP). Below is the customer's schematic and layout. Please help to identify the cause of this issue and provide some suggestions. Thank youTPS48110sch.pdf

  • Hi Vayne,

    A few things:

    1. What is the load you are using ? Your schematic indicates 40A, but your OCP is 15A.
    2. What is the value of the RSNS resistors you have ? Part number looks like 0.002 ohms.
      1. With this I calculated the IWRN is 7.5A, not 15.
    3. Have you used the TPS1212 calculator online to verify the values you have chosen? What are you using as Isc and Ioc?
      1. https://www.ti.com/product/TPS1211-Q1#design-tools-simulation
    4. Lastly, have you confirmed this is working if you use a load current below the OCP?

    Thanks,

    Sarah
