I would like to use the basic functions. I am trying to avoid using the external soft start. IN the Start up Section, if I choose the option to not use the external soft start, the "Derated SOA/PLIM" turns red. If I use the external soft start and set "Target Fault Time" to 30ms and adjust the Actual Time Capacitance to a capacitance with a smaller capcitor than the calculated, the actual fault time is much shorter than Target Fault time and is smaller than start up time. Attached spreadsheet of calculator with my inputs.

Hello Dennis,

External start-up helps in control inrush current and thus helping with the FET SOA.

150 nF/30mSec is too high for FET SOA point of view.

You can check TPS1663/TPS2663 which has integrated FET which can full fill your system requirement.

I ended up figuring out the issue. I was misunderstanding the "Target Fault Time" entry. After watching the video link in the file, I see that I should've had "1" as an entry which decreased the Time Capacitance needed. See updated file.TPS2493_HPA.xlsx
