TPS26750: Sourcing Device Implementation

Part Number: TPS26750

Tool/software:

Hello, and thank you in advance for your help.

We are trying to build a system capable of charging a Samsung tablet with a PD port while still being a UFP. We could not achieve this by configuring CC resistors via hardware, as the tablet, as soon as it gets connected, takes on the role of UFP Sink, and we can’t get the communication working. So I guess there is no other option than using a PD controller on our board to perform a data role swap.

Our system will not deliver more than 10W to the tablet, and once the sourcing device role is implemented, it will not need to change its role or deliver more power than anticipated. Therefore, we need the simplest PD controller possible to achieve this.

Do you recommend the TPS26750 for this application, or is there a simpler option for this use case?

Best regards,
Francisco

  • Hi Francisco,

I would recommend using the TPS25751S, TPS26750 includes additional support for EPR (Extended Power Range, up to 240W) which would be overkill for their project. Besides the data role requirement, are there any other criteria such as the sink capabilities (if needed), is this system DRP, and what kind of end application is the customer looking to design?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Raymond Lin

  • Hi Raymond, thank you for your answer

The end application is Medical. The only important requirement is the data role swap, the Sink will drive only 2A at most from the 5V VBUS so there is no need to rise voltage to 9V or 20V and techincally the system will be a source only device

  • Hi Francisco,

I would recommend TPS25751S for this application, customer will only need to utilize PP5V (internal 5V source only path of TPS25751S) for providing 5V source and can configure TPS25751S to prefer UFP data role through the GUI.

Let me know if there's any further questions or concerns!

    Thanks and Regards,

    Raymond Lin

  • Great, We will go for the TPS25751S then.

    Thank you for your insights!
