LMR51420: LMR51420XDDCR : Trying to reduce the high frequency ripple in the output

Part Number: LMR51420

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I'm working on reducing the high-frequency ripple in the output of an LMR51420XDDCR buck converter, which we've configured to output 5V.

We recently switched from the LMR50410Y5 to the LMR51420XDDCR because, in certain scenarios, the appliance connected to the converter can draw up to 1.2A. This exceeds the maximum current capacity of the LMR50410Y5.

To give you more context, the appliance is essentially a sensor board that is maintained at a specific temperature using PID control circuitry. While the current consumption is typically around 150mA during idle, it can surge to 1.2A in very cold environments.

So we passed from from this design

that outputs 5V with this waveform

to this design (verified using TI Power Designer)

that output 5V (4.98V to be precise) with this waveform.

Could I get your suggestions on ways to reduce high-frequency spikes? What potential solutions should we consider?

Thanks to all
