BQ76952: TDIA-010247 Schematcis

Part Number: BQ76952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76972, BQ76942, TIDA-010247, MSPM0G3519, MSP430FR2155, TMP61

Tool/software:

Hello,

I've loaded the design files from  https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/tidmb62  int Altium designer and i see that schematic is diffrent from
the PDF version in https://www.ti.com/lit/df/tidmb58a/tidmb58a.pdf

Which one should be used for reference?

  • Hello Vadim,

Do you mind pointing out which schematics are different and what you see is different within them?

    Best Regards,
    Alexis

  • Hi Alexis

For example:  In the .pdf file  Page 5 -  High Side FETS

There are 2 blocs of 8 FETS with C110 and C111 capacitors between them

And in the Atium project on the corresponding page there are 2 blocks of only 4 FETS with C57 and C58 capacitors between them:

  • Hi Alexis,
It seems that Altium project contains the previous version of the design based on BQ76942 chip and the PDF is based on BQ76972.

Actually i've asked Claude to compare the 2 designs and this is the result

Let me analyze the key differences between the new and old versions of the TIDA-010247 schematics:

    1. Battery Monitor IC Changes:
    • Changed from BQ76942 to BQ76972, which offers higher cell voltage measurement accuracy
    • The design still uses two stacked monitors but now with BQ76972 for both top and bottom monitoring
    1. MCU Changes:
    • Updated from MSP430FR2155 to MSPM0G3519
    • Added dual CAN-FD controllers
    • Enhanced cybersecurity features
    1. Communication Interface Updates:
    • Added an additional CAN interface for stacking capability up to 1500V systems
    • Improved isolation design with reinforced isolation (5kVRMS) for high voltage applications
    • Added CAN auto-addressing functionality for stacking multiple BMUs
    1. Power Supply Architecture:
    • Added a secondary auxiliary power option (#2) for external 24V power input
    • Enhanced the power supply design to support both low-voltage and high-voltage ESS applications
    • Improved isolation between power domains
    1. Thermistor Multiplexer:
    • Added temperature measurement multiplexer circuit to support up to 32 cell temperature measurements
    • Changed to TMP61 linear thermistors for better temperature measurement accuracy
    1. Protection Features:
    • Enhanced high-side N-channel MOSFET control architecture
    • Improved short circuit protection mechanisms
    • Added stronger driving capability for MOSFETs
    1. System Integration:
    • Added fan control output
    • Enhanced wake-up pattern design for CAN stacking
    • Improved ESD and surge protection

These changes appear to be focused on:

    1. Improving measurement accuracy
    2. Adding high-voltage system support
    3. Enhancing safety features
    4. Providing more flexible power options
    5. Supporting more comprehensive temperature monitoring
    6. Improving system reliability and robustness

The new design seems to be more suitable for both residential and industrial/commercial energy storage applications, with particular emphasis on high-voltage system support up to 1500V.

  • Hello Vadim,

I have downloaded the schematic and zip file you have shared, and they show the same things on my end. Perhaps, you somehow ended up with the previous version?

    Best Regards,
    Alexis

  • Hi Alexis,

You're righ, i somehow uploaded previous version...
    Thanks for the assitance
