BQ34Z100-R2: Commercial power tool battery fuel gauge

Part Number: BQ34Z100-R2

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are looking to utilise power tool batteries (56V, 12Ah EGO garden tool battery) for our mobile robot. We would like to incorporate a battery fuel gauge such as the bq34z100-r2 onto our power distribution board to provide SoC, Capacity etc. We need to be able to swap out batteries when depleted to enable the platform to continue operation.

We tested the bq34z100-r2 eval board but is seems that the bq34z100-r2 is best suited to be integrated to a single battery to enable it to characterise and track its state (not switch between batteries, even of the same type/capacity).

Can you please let me know if we are correct in this assumption, and if there is a better suited part for our project?

Thanks

  • Hi,

It can do both. You need to generate a golden image (configuration .gg/.srec/.bqfs) for new battery cells. Then upon a new battery being inserted, your host will reflash your golden image and it will be ready to gauge new cells.

    Regards,

    Diego
