TPS66020: Questions about 2ports solution.

Tool/software:

Two USB Type C ports are applied to the system, and we request you to verify a TI solution that allows the power system of the two ports to implement the sink/source requirements as follows.

Requirements

- System Power must be available regardless of which A/B port is connected

- When A Port receives power in Sink Mode, other B Port must power the Device in Source Mode

- If the B port receives power in sink mode, the other A port must power the device in source mode

: Sink mode is 5V, 3A power supply
: Source mode is 5V, 1.5A power supply

The pd controller is yet to be decided.
I inquired after looking at the application notes.

Hi David,

TPS66020 is meant to be a external power path switch to be controlled by a PD controller that does not have integrated power path(s). If the customer wants to pair this with a dual-port PD controller, they can implement a TPS66020 per port (or however their application requires).

Is the customer looking for alternatives for dual PD controller with integrated power path? Can you provide more detail on the customer ask and requirements?

Hi David,

Is the customer looking to pair TPS66020 with a dual-port PD controller that can support EPR? TPS66020 is designed to support only SPR (standard power range up to 100W) application and is a power path device, not a PD controller.

I'm a little confused on what is the ask here, can you elaborate on what is the customer ask (specific part type, are they looking for a PD controller, protection device, power path, etc.)?

They saw PD controller IC+TPS66020 and asked which PD controller IC to use.
