Hi,

we have successfully built 24V SMPS using uc3845 power factor is 0.29 so added pre stage PFC ckt for it using ucc28180 which has 0.85 PF now how can i still improve to get 0.99?

mine main question is now i am currently providing vcc for ucc28180 is from external adapter ? im trying now is to add one more winding on transformer hope it will work but is there any other best option to power pfc ic?

we already have working TIDA-00652 but its not isolated is there any similar isolated design available for bldc motor driver? 24v 30w.

Hello Dinesh,

If you are using UCC28180 in a buck-PFC configuration as shown in TIDA-00652, then you will not be able to achieve PF = 0.99. Buck-PFC inherently has higher distortion than boost PFC, so PF will be lower.

The Design Guide for TIDA-00652 has a graph of PF vs. load and line (Figure 22, page 18): https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/tiduas3 which shows that PF varies considerably depending on the test conditions.

The schematic of TIDA-00652 (https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/tidrhq7 ) shows how to provide VCC from a winding on the buck-inductor.

To provide an isolated single-stage PFC with low-voltage output, I suggest to use a single-stage flyback-PFC design as described in https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/tiduf84?keyMatch=single-stage%20PFC&tisearch=universal_search .

Thanks for the reply.

Isolated single-stage PFC with UCC28810 is the perfect solution which i was looking for.

I don't have any issues regarding TIDA-00652 we already having that product but currently we've stopped manufacturing just because it is non isolated and PF was 0.9
