HELP WITH TPS2590 HIGH CURRENT LOAD SWITCH

Section - OUT - POWER LIMIT Specification - What is this the POWER limit of???  Is it the POWER LIMIT of (Vout*Iout) or is it the limit of (Iout * RON)  - I AM A LITTLE CONFUSED HERE.

I NEED SOME HELP ASAP!!! or POINT ME TO THE CORRECT GROUP TO POST THIS QUESTION ABOUT THE LOAD SWITCH POWER.

 

 

 

 

  • There is an internal MOSFET switching the input to the output. The power dissipated in this FET is limited to 5W. In this way the FET is always run in it's safe operating area. The power is (vin -Vout) x Iout.

  • So, the Current set thru the device (Iout) is truly set by the Rlim and Rflt resistors then, correct???  They are independent of voltage set??

     

    In our application we are using two Load switches - One at 5.0 Volts and one at 3.7Volts.  We want max Ilim, so we are setting Rlim = 40.2Kohm

    and Rflt = 49.9Kohm.  That should give us a ILim = 5A and IFlt = 4A, correct???

     

     

  • That's right, the RILIM and RIFLT program the output current output limits.  The current limits are independent of the input voltage.

    Your RILIM and RFLT values allow the maximum output current, ILIM = 5A and IFLT = 4A.
