TPS25947: Can TPS259474LRPWR or TPS259474ARPWR be connected in series

Part Number: TPS25947

Tool/software:

For either TPS259474LRPWR or TPS259474ARPWR, I need to know if these can be used in series (input of 1st is connected to the output of 2nd) as I need this for an intrinsic safe design where I need to triplicate the safety circuit. I currently have a circuit built as per the attached schematic but during short circuit either U1 or U5 or U6 fails.

  • Hi Johann,

This schematic should work. The soft start and startup time delay will be different when compared to single device.

During output short circuit test, high current will flow through all three eFuse so either of three can perform circuit breaker operation.

during short circuit either U1 or U5 or U6 fails.

By fails, do you mean permanent damage or circuit breaker operation?

    Best Regard,
    Arush

  • Hi Arush

    sorry for the late reply.

By fails I mean permanent damage to the circuit breaker.

  • Hi Johann,

Most likely some some abs max rating is violating which is resulting in these fails. Do you have any waveforms?

For the failed device, do you see which pin is getting damaged. (visually or check using diode mode of multimeter to see diode drop from GND to all pins, Vin to Vout and Vout to Vin). Is your board also getting permanently damaged.

    Best Regards,
    Arush
