BQ25750: ILIM input current limit concept

Part Number: BQ25750

Tool/software:

Hello TI team.

I have a question about ILIM concept and setting.

For example,

- ILIM_HIZ pin setting is 5A

- ICHG pin setting is 1A

- System current consumption is ~20A

In this case, if I connect external input source(power adapter able to supply 20A, no battery charging state, only operating system load 20A),

Does the Charger is pass maximum 5A and blocking the rest input power by ILIM set?

Thank you.

  • Hello Ben,

The ILIM_HIZ pin is only used to regulate the current used to charge the battery. Once the system load exceeds the ILIM_HIZ value, the battery will stop being charged and the charger will wait for the system current to drop below ILIM_HIZ to begin charging again.

Keep in mind that the system load current only flows through the ACFETs and the input sense resistor, so there isn't a mechanism to regulate the system load current without adding external components.

Let me know if this answers your questions and let me know if this will work for your system.

    Best Regards,
    Ethan Galloway
