TLV61046A: Selecting the right Boost for my OLED display

Part Number: TLV61046A

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using a display that can draw 100mA, and work with a 13V voltage supply, we plan to use a 3.6V battery and use a boost to get the 13V, We tried to use TLV61046ADBVT, but seems it can provide only 40mA with our configuration.  please help us with selecting a TI boost regulator that fits our application in a small size.

Thanks!

  • Hello Mohamed,

Normally the device should be able to deliver 100mA in your configuration. Why do you think that it is not able to deliver more than 40mA?

    Best regards,
    Brigitte

  • Hello Brigitte,

Well, I have used the webench and have had no results. it says that the IC can't work with this configuration, and when I set the current to 40mA it generates the design.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Again!

This screenshot is from the datasheet, it's very close to our configuration and the datasheet mentioned the output current is 50mA.

  • Hi Mohamed,

What's the inductor used in your application? Or could you send me your schematic?

For your screenshot from datasheet, the 50mA is the Iout in the example application, not the max Iout.

    And when Vin = 3.6V, Vout = 13V, L = 10μH, the max Iout should reach around 100mA.

    Regards

    Lei

  • Hello Lei!

    Thank you for your assistance!

Well, to be clear, the problem is when the Boost is not enabled ( display OFF)  our device works fine, but when we allow the Boost the voltage drops, and the sensors' data is bad with fluctuation and drops in signal level.

Here is our design, the inductor is 10uH with a 450mA  current rating, and our display draws around 60mA.

    Thanks

  • Hi Mohamed,

the problem is when the Boost is not enabled ( display OFF)  our device works fine, but when we allow the Boost the voltage drops

Sorry I'm confused about the saying above. Especially about that when the Boost is disabled, you device works fine. Could you explain in more details?

I didn't see concerns on your schematic, except that the Isat of your used inductor is too small. Could you also send me the layout for review?

Please do a quick experiment if available: use a 10μH inductor with Isat at least 1A. I think with this change higher Iout can be extracted and the Boost may work fine.

    Regards

    Lei
