TPS26750: TPS26750 Source-Only Configuration for 240W USB-C PD 3.1

Part Number: TPS26750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25756

Tool/software:

Hi all,

I’m evaluating the TPS26750 + BQ25756 for a USB-C PD 3.1 source-only application to provide the full 240W (48V/5A) to a sink device. However, when using the online configuration tool, I noticed that the source-only option is grayed out, and the examples provided seem to focus exclusively on battery charger applications.

My goal is to use a fixed power supply instead of a battery, so I need the TPS26750 and BQ25756 to operate as a dedicated PD source without any sink functionality. The datasheet mentions source mode operation, but the tool doesn’t seem to support this (yet?).

Could you provide guidance on how to configure the TPS26750 for source-only mode? Are there specific register settings or external components required to enable this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards,

Dylan

  • Hi Dylan,

I'll be able to provide a full detailed answer by the end of day today, but in short, yes that is doable with a few register changes.

  • Hi Conner,

Do you have any update on this?

    Kind regards,

    Dylan

  • Hi Dylan,

My apologies. Please give me until EOB today to get back to you on this.

  • You would select the source/sink box without a BQ device (image attached)

Then, enter advanced configuration-> REgister 0x32 -> Field "Number of Source PDOs", then increase the number of SPR PDOs (<= 100W, "Number of Valid PDOs") and EPR PDOs (up to 240W) and the standard fixed PDOs will automatically populate as "Source_PDO_#" and "EPR_Source_PDO_#". You can change the current and voltage values to meet your needs. Ensure that they are in ascending order of voltage from Source PDO 1 to n.

In 0x33, change number of sink PDOs to 0.

In 0x29, uncheck process swap to sink and initiate swap to sink.

In 0x28, change TypeC  State macine to "Source state machine only"

These should be all of the changes you need, based on the description of your system. Sorry again for the wait.

    Regards,

    Conner
