BQ25750: Output current protection (OCP, SCP)

Part Number: BQ25750

Tool/software:

Hello TI team,

Does it have output current protection in BQ25750?

- For example, at the AC input case, the IC sense AC current by ACP/N pins, and when Over current occurs, the ACFET is turned off.

- At the Battery input case is also same way.

Thank you.

  • Hello Ben,

Yes, the BQ25750 does have input and output current protection.

    - For example, at the AC input case, the IC sense AC current by ACP/N pins, and when Over current occurs, the ACFET is turned off.

The ACFETs will stay ON when the ILIM_HIZ current is exceeded, but the battery will stop charging here.

    - At the Battery input case is also same way.

In reverse mode, the BQ25750 will reduce the reverse current when the battery discharge limit (IBAT_REV) is exceeded.

Let me know if you have any questions about this and let me know if this will work for your application.

    Best Regards,
    Ethan Galloway

  • Hello Ethan,

Thanks your reply, I understand ILIM_HIZ function for protect AC source by stop charging, but my question is little different point.

In case that the System is consuming power from connecting charger circuit output just one source whatever from the ACFET or BATFET.

If the system occur fault as short circuit or over load condition,

    Ex1, soure is onlyt VAC

     - Does the IC detect IAC over current and disable ACFET?

    Ex2. source is only BAT

     - It's not Reverse mode power direction, my question is the charger turns the BATFET on to connect the battery directly to the system.

In case of that, does the IC detect IBAT over current and disable BATFET?

If IC detect overcurrent, how to i set the current level both of cases?

    Thank you.

  • Hello Ben,

    Thanks for the clarification/

     - Does the IC detect IAC over current and disable ACFET?

No, the IC won't disable the ACFET when the current goes above the ILIM_HIZ pin.

     - It's not Reverse mode power direction, my question is the charger turns the BATFET on to connect the battery directly to the system.

The BATFETs will also not turn off if the ICHG current or reverse mode current is exceeded.

Could you use a BMS or an MCU to turn-off power if needed?

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Ethan,

Yes, the system has a BMS and a Load switch positioned before and after the charger. They can turn-off power if need.

    Thanks your information.
