TPS25983: Are there (known) failure modes for the TPS25983?

Part Number: TPS25983

Tool/software:

Hello,

Are there failure modes for the TPS25983?

Maybe putting a value for the C dV/dt cap too large - ~ 1 uF?

Should an external protection diode be put on Pin 15 if driving large capacitances, say (O)2.5mF?

If the external MOSFET fails - maybe a transient could drive Pin 15 beyond the Vbr of that diode?

I've had parts fail - including two of the EVM's driving at 24V.  I removed/changed all parts not rated
to operate at 24V.

Maybe others out there can share their experiences.

Regards,
John W.

  • Hi John,

We have a document with different failure modes for this device.  Let me share that to you through mail.

Yes, 1uF at dvdt pin is very large. Is hiccup mode acceptable in your end application?
