TPS25983: Value of Cout is so large when following Voutmin equation

Part Number: TPS25983

Tool/software:

When use TPS25983 such as Active ORing circuit for 12V power supplies, I want to reduce the voltage drop during the switchover from one supply to another.

I am following Equation 30 in the datasheet, but value of Cout is not real. Please help to advise.

  • Hi Son,

I cannot access google drive. I am sharing my answer based on the image you shared.

I think your concern is for selected minimum voltage drop, you are getting very high required Cout value.

Let me add some things which might help you.

Here, when the switching is happening, the load current will be provided by the output cap and the minimum voltage is derived purely by capacitive discharge value.

Min(V1,V2) - Delta_V (which is dt*I/C). Use the load current which is present when you are switching. If you are using full load when switching the supplies, you will need big bulk cap to prevent the supply to drop.
