UCC256402: Regarding use of LLC resonant converter UCC25600, UCC256402, UCC26403, UCC256404 in DC/DC circuits

Part Number: UCC256402
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC256403, UCC256404, , UCC25600, UCC25660

Tool/software:

I would like to know about LLC resonant converters that can be used with DC input voltages of 70V-110V. The output power is 150W. Which of UCC25600, UCC256402, UCC256403, or UCC256404 can be used? Also, if there are any other best LLC resonant converter ICs that can be used, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

  • Hi,

They can all be used in this range.  The difference is the feature sets. The UCC25600 is a basic LLC controller without high-voltage startup and requires external gate drivers. The UCC25640x series has integrated gate drivers and more. The latest series is the UCC25660x. Which is the highest resonant frequency LLC on the market today.

Here is a WEBENCH design based on the UCC25660 series.

Based on having a DC input voltage, I would recommend the UCC256602 which does not have X-capacitor discharge enabled.

I hope this answers your question.

  • Thanks for your reply. I'm going to use UCC256602. I have a question. Why do I need a gate driver? What kind of element should I use and where? Thank you.

  • Hi,

With the UCC256602, you should not require an external gate driver for most applications. The EVM schematic is a good starting point for how to use the device. Also, the Excel design calculator can help you to optimize the component selection.

I hope this helps you get started.
