LM51772: When to use DRV pin

Part Number: LM51772

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Could you help share more detail on the purpose of DRV pin? In datasheet it said for reverse polarity protection.

But for USB PD, could customer use CSA or ISNSN/P to detect reverse current, and close the four switching MOS for reverse polarity protection? This can save one MOS and reduce the cost.

Looking forward to your comments in USB PD application.

Thank you!
Marc

  • Hi Marc,

the DRV1 signal can be used to control and external MOSFET to perform a disconnect function.

For USB PD this is required to ensure the capacitance on the power pins is according to the spec which is much lower then what is needed for the SMPS.

So you can use the to control a disconnect MOSFET.

Using it for reverse polarity is another usecase.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
