BQ27441EVM-G1A: Evaluation Board

Part Number: BQ27441EVM-G1A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

Tool/software:

Hello!

I am running a learning cycle test on our 7.8Ah LI- ION (3.6V-4.2V) battery pack with the help of BQ27441EVM evaluation board and BQ Studio. I am following the learning cycle document provided by TI. My values for the gas gauge data memory are :

1. Design Capacity - 7800

2. Design Energy - 28800

3. Term Voltage -  3000

4. Taper Rate - 200

5. Voltage at Chg Term - 4100

First step was to discharge the battery with a load. I connected the load to the Evaluation Board and also connected the evaluation board to BQ Studio via EV2400. I let the discharge cycle run itself until BQ Studio asks me to remove the load. Here is the screenshot :

The discharge cycle has completed successfully but I am not able to move to the next step. The document says to let the process rest for 5 hours. A lot more than 5 hours has crossed since and the cycle state still displays "discharging complete - remove load now". Also, if you notice bottom left of the screenshot, it is giving me an error of "No acknowledge from device". What am I missing? The battery pack terminate voltage is set at 3V. I am not sure why the cycle state doesn't go from "Discharge" state to "Relax" and eventually to "Charge". How to get to that point? Please advise! Thank you!

  • Hello Pushpendra,

It appears to be that your device lost connection to your gauge during the learning process. Assuming that you didn't disconnect the cable, move it to another port or have a cable issues I listed the possible issues you could be facing.

-Make sure that values in the register for term voltage, design capacity is set in right. You could've lost connection if for some reason the gauge doesn't sense any voltage on on its sense leads and during the learning process you could've damaged the cell.

-I've noticed that you said that you were using a EV2400 but on your screen it shows that you are using a EV2300 and a old software version. I would update your firmware for your EV2400 and update your BQStudio.

-make sure that no load or charge during the relaxation period however it should've cause a disconnection

    Thank you,
    Alan
