TLC6983: Required Q'ty of TLC6983

Part Number: TLC6983
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC6984

Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

Our customer wants to use TLC6983 for Transparent LED Display.

Their specification is 1080x1920 (RGB) resolution.

How many TLC6983's are required to support this resolution?

Could you please get your feedback asap?

Best Regards,

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

    The number of device for your application mainly depends on your current request. so how much average current(R/G/B) do you need?

    Monet Xu

  • Hi Monet,

    Thanks for your kind support.

    For your reference, the type of LED is Micro LED.

    The average current required for each R/G/B is 0.5mA.

    Best Regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael

    1. Suggest using TLC6983 with 2 stackable mode. 2 device design to drive 32*30 RGB.

    so 1080/30 * 1980/32 *2 = 4320 TLC6983

    2. Using TLC6984 with 3 stackable mode, 3 device design to drive 48 * 40 RGB

    so 1080/40 * 1920/48 *2 = 2160 TLC6984

  • Hi Monet,

    I got a information about HW configuration.

    Could you please check below and share best solution (include device information and calculation as above your comment)?

    Application: Transparent LED Display
    Here is the real customer's configuration (based on 1set)
    Resolution: 950 x 534 (single-sided)
    The display is double-sided.
    That is, total LED Q'ty = 950 x 534 x 2 = 1,014,600

    Best Regards,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

    based on the set is 950 x 534,

    • if the average current is around 0.5mA,considering the scan efficiency, suggested to use TLC6983 device
      • 2 device in 2-stackable mode to drive 30 * 32 RGB
      • the IC number should be 950/32 * 534/32 * 2 = 30 * 18 * 2= 1080 devices
    • if the average current is lower than 0.5mA, suggest to use TLC6984 device
      • 3 device in 3-stackable mode8 to driver 38 * 48 RGB
      • the IC number should be 950/38 * 534/48 * 2(double sided)= 600 devices

    by the way, do you have any spec about the pixel pitch? which kind of LED will you use? COB or SMT?

    BR

    Monet Xu

  • Hi Monet,

    Pixel pitch is 2mm.

    However, I didn't receive any information about what type of package it is.

    Based on the pixel pitch, it seems to be SMT type.

    I have a question about the IC number in the calculation you provided.

    1. TLC6983

    * 2 device in 2-stackable mode to drive 30 * 32 RGB
    * the IC number should be 950/32 * 534/32 * 2 = 30 * 18 * 2= 1080 devices

    Question

    Question1, Is this for single sided?

    Question2, If it is right, for double sided, the IC number should be 950/32 * 534/32 * 2(2 device in 2-stackable mode) * 2(double sided) = 30 * 18 * 2 * 2= 2160 devices

    2. TLC6984

    * 3 device in 3-stackable mode8 to driver 38 * 48 RGB
    * the IC number should be 950/38 * 534/48 * 2(double sided)= 600 devices

    Question

    Question1, For single sided, I think that calculation is 950/38 * 534/48 * 3(3 device in 3-stackable mode)

                      Is it right? If I misunderstood the calculation, could you please explain the calculation formula?

    If you have any calculation sheet, could you please share it?
