TPS54302: DUAL POWER SUPPLY TPS543XX

Part Number: TPS54302

Tool/software:

I kindly ask if someone can help me to fix this power supply. I cannot understand why the -15V is not coming out while the positive branch is working properly.
Is there any way to debug it? What measurements can I take to check where the problem is?

I can add as information that GND is a power plane.

Thank you,
Ermanno

  • Hi Ermanno,

Bella is OoO today, and will come back next Monday. She will give you feedback later. Thanks for your patience.

    Aurora

  • Hi Aurora, it is not urgent, Monday will be fine

    Thank you

  • Hi Ermanno

Can you please measure the voltage waveform between SW-GND(IC)(PIN1) ? And the waveform between VIN and GND(IC) , EN and GND(IC).

    Thanks and best regards.

  • Hi Gui,
This video if between pin2(SW) and pin1(GND)
I hope this video is enough, unfortunately I can't do any further testing. The TPS54302 melted!!!Slight smile

The video is 10 seconds long and you can see the continuous reboot of the chip.  What does this behavior mean?

As soon as I put the new chip, I will create the other 2 videos

Thanks and best regards too you,

    Ermanno

  • Hi Ermanno

What's the Vin you applied, the Vds of the mosfet of U202 is Vin+|Vo|, should be lower than the voltage rate of TPS54302, which is 28V.

You can check if the inverting buck boost can work well when applying a lower Vin like 10V.

    Working With Inverting Buck-Boost Converters

    Thanks and best regards.

  • As soon as i replace the tps54302 (hopefully by today) i will do the required verifications.
    Thanks
    Ermanno

  • Thank you Ermanno.

    Best regards.

  • Thanks for the valuable support, I have done the suggested tests.
Effectively reducing the voltage to 9V, the chip starts and works properly.
This solves my problem regarding the negative branch.
Now I have to rework the positive branch network where the voltage has been reduced to 8V.
It is not necessary to create the additional videos
    Thank you very much
    Best regards,
    Ermanno

  • Thank you Ermanno

I will close this thread now, please let us know if there are other questions.

    Thanks and best regards.

  • Hi Gui, it's all right you can close it quietly
    Thank you,
    Best regards,
