BQ24610: Not Working Properly Without Battery

Part Number: BQ24610

Tool/software:

Hi, I’m using the BQ24610RGER with the reference schematic from the datasheet, but I’ve noticed that when no battery is connected, the circuit doesn’t work properly. The output has a lot of noise, and the MOSFETs connected to ACDRV are continuously turning on and off, probably trying to detect a battery. Additionally, the PG signal is blinking very fast.

I also noticed that this oscillation happens when the voltage is below the programmed charging level. If the voltage is above that threshold, the oscillation stops.

Does anyone know if this controller can operate without a battery, or am I missing something?
