Hi,
My customer is asking if these pins are truly not connected and if so, if it is okay to tie them to VCC to help with their layout.
Thanks,
John

Any update on this? My customer is trying to finalize their layout this week.

Hello John,
Happy to help here, can you help me understand what you mean with "these pins", can you be more specific?
I assume you are referring to No connect pins possibly, if so which ones
Thanks,
Zach
Yeah, the ones in the title of the question. Pins 1-4. Some times we actually connect NC pins as test pins and sometimes we truly leave them floating. Trying to understand of Pins 1-4 can be connected to VCC net to aid with the layout.
John
It is true that these pins are not electrically connected to anything inside the package.
Electrically I do not see an issue with connecting them to VCC, but I need to check with our design team that there are no other potential package issues we could see.
Can you also help explain how connecting these pins to VCC will aid the layout?
Thanks,
Zach Soviero
Hi Zach,
I don't have the customer layout so I am not positive on why this helps. But my guess is they are trying to pour a plane for the VCC net on the same side as the IC. So this would help with spacing if these pins could be inside the pour.
Were you able to get confirmation that these pins could be tied to VCC from design? Really need to get an answer to my customer in the next day or so.
Thanks,
John
Hi John,
From our conversation offline, this connection is not recommended and poses risk, please advise customer to not connect these NC pins to VCC.
We can continue offline and I will close this thread
Thanks,
