BQ25628E: WD timer setting

Part Number: BQ25628E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25628, BQ25629,

Tool/software:

Hello

I have been trying to reset the WD timer above 40 seconds , for example 41 or 43 seconds , WD timer timer is timing out and Charger_Flag_0 (0x20[0]) is set , saying FLAG is set and detecting WD timer signal rising edge.

Means WD timing out.

I have checked all the datasheets for bq25628,bq25629 and bq25628e   Charge_control_0 register(0x16[1:0]) WATCHDOG has below Watchdog timer setting

1:0 WATCHDOG R/W 1h Reset by:
REG_RESET
Watchdog timer setting
00b = Disable
01b = 50s (default)
10b = 100s
11b = 200s

If I reset wd timer reset bit (0x16[2]) within 40 seconds including , WD timer is not expiring

Could you please verify WD timer setting is correct ?

I can see that EVK for Device BQ25628/9 has WD timer setting in steps of 40 seconds

thanks

Parimal

  • Hi Parimal,

    Thank you for reaching out via E2E. I can confirm the watchdog timer settings in the datasheet are accurate and up to date. When BQ25628E product was 1st released default watchdog timer was 40 sec, but there was a product change made over a year ago resulting in an extension of the watchdog timer duration.

    We are aware the watchdog timer dropdown menu in the GUI for BQ25628/9 needs to be updated and are working to have that released. Please refer to the datasheet for most up to day specifications for the device.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hello Garrett

    Thank you for the information provided

    Would you please tell me product that I have is one year or older ?

    I read the REG0x38_Part_Information Register and its value is 0x22 , means Device is BQ25628E and Device revision is 2

    thanks and regards

    Parimal

  • Hi Parimal,

    Thank you for your response. Please help to provide the top markings on the IC in question. Then I can verify whether product is older and therefore would have a typical 40 sec watchdog time with default configuration.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hello Garrett

    Please find attached requested image , though would there be any other alternative to get the information , as from data sheet not able to get the required information of IC version

  • Hi Parimal,

    Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, there is not an alternative method to verify age of the specific unit in question. The top markings on the IC allow us to look of the specific production lot.

    Based on the provided photo I can confirm this specific unit is an 'older' IC and expected Watchdog timer at default setting is 40 sec. Based on this the IC appears to be behaving as expected. The unit was manufactured in 2023 prior to product change in early 2024.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
