TPS923652: Driving Display Backlight from 5V Supply

Part Number: TPS923652

Tool/software:

Hi there

I was wondering if driving the following display backlight from a 5V power supply is possible:

Usually the examples in the datasheets consider a series connection of many LEDs but with only a small current.
Do you see any problems using this driver with a 5V power supply?

Thanks in advance for your support

  • Hi Sandro,

If you want to use TPS923652 in this condition, there are two things you should pay attention to -

    1. You should make sure that the input voltage never drops below 4.5V.
    2. You should set the switching frequency relatively low in order not to trigger the switching FET minimum off time (You can refer to the parameter t_min_OFF in Section 7.5 Electrical Characteristics from the datasheet.)

    Best Regards,

    Steven
